Solar Eclipse Safety Briefing – April 8, 2024

Solar Eclipse Safety Briefing

Partial or annular solar eclipses differ from total and near-total solar eclipses. A Total Solar Eclipse is when the Moon completely blocks the Sun from Earth in specific regions as the Earth rotates. Therefore, looking at any eclipse is unsafe without proper eye protection.  On Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be a solar eclipse when the Moon moves between the Sun and the Earth. In Toronto, it is expected to be a near-total solar eclipse between 2:04 p.m. and 4:31 p.m., with the peak happening at 3:19 p.m. That’s when the Moon will cover most of the Sun’s light. Since this occurs during working hours, planning and taking precautions is essential.
